A Mystery In The Depths TOTK Quest Solution And Location

Exploring the underground realm of Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom offers some of the most rewarding adventures in the game. Among the core main objectives, A Mystery in the Depths stands out as a crucial quest that grants players access to powerful new capabilities. Completing this journey opens up essential gameplay mechanics and advances the overarching story.
How to Unlock and Find the Quest Location
To begin A Mystery in the Depths, players must first complete at least one major area in the Regional Phenomena quest line. Once this milestone is reached, head to Lookout Landing and speak with Josha, who directs you toward the mysterious subterranean world. She asks you to follow a line of ancient statues pointing toward a hidden landmark deep within the darkness.
The quest starts by descending into the Depths through the Hyrule Field Chasm located south of Lookout Landing. Bringing plenty of Brightbloom Seeds and arrows is highly recommended to light up your path through the gloom. As you navigate through the pitch-black environment, follow the gaze of each stone statue to remain on the correct route.
Reaching the Great Abandoned Central Mine
Continuing southward along the trail of statues eventually leads to the Great Abandoned Central Mine. This massive underground facility serves as the primary location for solving the quest's core puzzle. Upon arrival, interact with the Steward Construct stationed near the center of the ruins to trigger a key cutscene.
Interacting with the construct unlocks the Autobuild ability, which instantly recreates previously assembled Zonai structures. You will be asked to demonstrate this skill by repairing a broken vehicle on site using your newly acquired powers. Successfully completing this task demonstrates your mastery of the feature and progresses the mission objective.
Confronting Master Kohga and Completing the Quest
Immediately after gaining Autobuild, you will be ambushed by Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan in a sudden boss battle. Kohga attacks using a custom vehicle, forcing you to stay mobile and dodge his straightforward charges. Stun him with well-aimed bow shots to knock him off his ride, then strike with your weapon while he is vulnerable.
Defeating Master Kohga rewards you with valuable resources, including a Large Crystallized Charge and a Schema Stone. With the threat neutralized, use the fast travel network to return to Lookout Landing and speak with Josha once again. Demonstrating Autobuild by fixing a hot air balloon nearby fully completes the quest and earns extra rewards.
Key Rewards and Unlocked Features
Completing A Mystery in the Depths provides some of the most beneficial upgrades in Tears of the Kingdom. Beyond gaining the permanent Autobuild function, finishing this quest allows Robbie to move to the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. This enables further key Purah Pad upgrades such as the Shrine Sensor and Travel Medallions.
Additionally, resolving this mission opens up the broader Master Kohga questline throughout the subterranean map. Players can track down additional abandoned mines to gather powerful Schema Stones and increase their Zonaite energy battery capacity. Taking the time to finish this early main quest drastically improves overall exploration efficiency.
